Asha's Story

Bollywood legend, star of stage and screen and the most recorded voice in history, Asha Bhosle’s life has been characterised by two passions – music and food.

From humble beginnings in the hamlet of Goar, Eastern India, Asha’s journey took her to Mumbai and the pinnacle of Bollywood. Celebrating her country’s rich cultural heritage and culinary traditions, she created Asha’s – a global group of ground-breaking Indian restaurants, where some of the world’s finest chefs blend authentic flavours with a contemporary perspective to redefine Indian cuisine.

Inspired by recipes discovered and cherished during Asha’s colourful career, our Signature Dishes span Indian culinary traditions, from family favourites and sensational street food to the cuisine of royalty.

A fusion of the classic and the contemporary, our sharing selection combines evocative traditional flavours with bold new creations – from fragrant Gosht Seekh Kebabs, a rich Sarson Machli and the vibrant flavours of our Paneer Ka Soola to our own saffron-infused Lamb Kesar Biryani, a show-stopping Kodi Curry and a spectacular aromatic Boatman Prawn Curry.

Curated by our international mixologist, the drinks menu offers an exotic array of flavours. Featuring the unmistakable Indian palate of cardamom, clove, rose jam, jaggery and Assam and Darjeeling tea, our drinks will complement your food and transport your tastebuds to another time and place.

Asha’s status as a Bollywood icon has seen her collaborate with some of the world’s leading recording artists, from the legendary Shujaat Khan and Michael Stipe to Boy George and Manchester’s own Simply Red. More recently, her trail-blazing restaurants in some of the world’s most glamorous locations have seen her celebrity connections extend far beyond the world of music.

Drawn by opulent interiors, superlative service and, above all, visionary culinary innovation, Asha’s have been privileged to greet some of the world’s biggest names at our restaurants in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Birmingham and now Manchester. Sporting icons, Michelin-starred chefs, big names from TV and the big screen… all have received the same red carpet welcome we extend to each and every one of our guests.

From Bollywood to Hollywood, Amitabh’s big screen career spans nearly 50 years. Making his debut in Saat Hindustani in 1969, “Big B” went on to make almost 200 Hindi films, establishing his name amongst the pantheon of Bollywood’s greatest actors. His Hollywood debut alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire in 2013’s The Great Gatsby represented a new landmark in a career which has seen him garner fifteen Filmfare Awards, four Best Actor National Film Awards and international acclaim. Latterly branching out into film production and TV presenting, Amitabh is today one of the most respected voices in Hindi cinema.

With no fewer than four UK restaurants boasting three Michelin stars apiece, Heston Blumenthal OBE is synonymous with culinary innovation and visionary cuisine. A self taught chef, his pioneering work in multi sensory cooking, flavour encapsulation and food pairing has also gained recognition from the world of academia, with honorary degrees from the Universities of London, Bristol and Reading and fellowship of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Internationally recognised, his work as a TV presenter, columnist and best-selling author has redefined our relationship with food.

One of the world’s most recognised Indian actors, Anil Kapoor has starred in well over 100 movies since his cameo appearance in 1979’s Hamare Tumhare and taking his starring bow in Vamsa Vriksham in 1980. His role as the gameshow host in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire brought him international fame in 2008, followed by critical acclaim for his performance alongside Kiefer Sutherland in the eighth and final series of US drama 24. His glittering career has included two National Film Awards and Six Filmfare Awards, including Best Actor accolades for Virasat in 1997 and Pukar in 2000. More recently, he has moved into production, having acquired the rights for an Indian remake of 24, in which he has also taken the lead role.

Anil Kapoor

Born Kamaljit Singh Jhooti in 1979, British singer songwriter Jay Sean’s career marks him out as a crossover pioneer of Bhangra-R&B fusion. He made his debut on the UK Asian Underground scene as a member of the Rishi Rich Project, hitting Number 12 in the UK Singles Chart with “Dance with You” in 2003. Two Top Ten hits as a solo artist followed in 2004, with “Eyes on You” reaching Number 6 and “Stolen” at Number 4. His debut album, “Me Against Myself”, sold a staggering 2,000,000 copies across Asia, with further success for his second album “My Own Way”, which topped the UK R&B chart in 2008. Across the Atlantic, US debut album “All or Nothing” reached Number 37 in the US Billboard 200 in 2009.

Jay Sean

Actress, singer, film producer, philanthropist… Priyanka Chopra’s career as a feminist icon and star of the big screen has brought her international acclaim and recognition. Winner of Miss World in 2000, Priyanka went on to make her Bollywood debut in 2003 movie The Hero. Since then, her acting career has included a National Film Award and five Filmfare Awards, including Best Actress for 2008 movie Fashion.

Turning her celebrity status to philanthropic work, Priyanka has supported UNICEF for the last ten years, becoming a national Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights in 2010, which became a global role in 2016. Promoting causes from the environment, health and education and women’s rights, she was named in Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people in 2016, a year which also saw her awarded the fourth highest civilian award, the Padma Shri, by the Indian government.

Priyanka Chopra

Born in 1965, Shahrukh Khan is not only one of India’s foremost TV and movie stars but also an influential film producer. In a career that has spanned some 80 Bollywood films to date, his versatility as an actor has seen him shine in a spectrum of roles, from villains to romantic leads and star turns in comedies. First appearing on TV in the late 1980s, Shahrukh made his Bollywood debut in 1992 movie Deewana. Since then, huge box office success and critical acclaim have followed, including no fewer than 14 Filmfare Awards. Branching out into philanthropic work in health care and disaster relief, he has been awarded UNESCO’s Pyramide Con Marni for children’s education, the Indian Government’s Padma Shri and Ordre Des Arts et des Lettres and Legion d’Honneur from the French Government. Entrepreneur, film producer and cricket-lover, Shahrukh is also co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, leading lights of the Indian Premier League.
